What is the Association? It is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit soldiers and veterans fraternity.
When did it begin? On 17 July, 1944, a group of FIRST TEAM soldiers in the Admiralty Islands agreed to form an Association of 1st Cavalry Division soldiers and veterans to preserve old friendships and conduct periodic reunions.
Where is it? It is country-wide. The National headquarters is located in Copperas Cove, Texas. There are several chapters throughout the country, as well as a chapter in the active Division.

Who is eligible for membership? Anyone who has been assigned or attached to the 1st Cavalry Division anytime, anywhere, is eligible for Life membership in the Association. There are currently more than 28,000 men and women on our active membership rolls. Friends of the Cavalry who have not served with the Division can become Associate members.
Our Scholarship Foundation: The Foundation of the 1st Cavalry Division Association, offers scholarships of $1,000 per year for up to four years to the children of 1st Cavalry Division troopers who have died or become totally and permanently disabled while serving in the Division in combat. This program was begun to assist the children of battle casualties of the Vietnam War and has expanded to children of peacetime active duty Association members who died while serving in the Division. We have provided more than $622,000.00 in grants to 437 applicants through this worthy program which continues today. Also, 105 descendants of the Ia Drang battle participants have been awarded over $149,000 in grants from this program. Association members that are currently serving with the 1st Cavalry Division and their families are eligible to receive scholarship grants from the Foundation. We have awarded over $173,000 to 221 applicants under this portion of our program.
Our Museum Foundation: The 1st Cavalry Division Association Museum Foundation is a charitable and educational activity established for the express intent of providing support to the 1st Cavalry Division Museum located at Fort Hood, Texas. The primary goals and objectives of the Museum Foundation are to: (1) Build a new Museum facility. (2) Support historical projects, programs, and research that preserve the history of the 1st Cavalry Division and its troopers. (3) Support Museum programs that educate the public and increase its appreciation for the contributions of the Division. (4) Promote, counsel, and provide support to organizations, both government and private, that are committed to similar goals and objectives. The Museum Foundation sponsored the construction and emplacement of a Memorial to honor the Troopers of the Division who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in future deployments during the war on terrorism.
In summary: We are a group of soldiers and former soldiers from privates to 4-star generals who share a bond of service with the FIRST TEAM. We are dedicated to support of the Division and of each other.

The LA/OC Chapter The Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter was chartered in 2006.
The Chapter meets at 0900 hours on the third Saturday of each month at the Brea Veterans Club. The Brea Veterans Club is located at 735 S. Brea Boulevard in Brea, California. The next meeting is scheduled for 19 April 2007.
Chapter officers for 2008, were elected at our January 19, 2008 meeting. The following members were elected: President - John Guillory, Vice President - John Burgner, Secretary - Bill Clothier, Treasurer - Jim Willenburg and Public Relations - Fred Bergerson. On March 14, 2008, Chapter members participated with over four hundred other veterans from World War II, Korea , Vietnam , Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, in King High Remembers, an oral history project launched in 2001. On a sad note, Jim Willingham, our Chapter's treasurer, passed away on March 19, 2008. Jim was also treasurer for 3-18 FA, and his support and willingness to pitch in, will be sorely missed. A contribution, in Jim's name, will be made to the 1st Cavalry Division's scholarship fund. Bill Clothier will assume the duties and responsibilities of chapter treasurer until elections at the April 19, 2008, Chapter meeting.
The Chapter provided invaluable assistance to the San Bernardino Chapter during the 60th Annual Reunion of the 1st Cavalry Division Association in 2007. The reunion was held in Riverside, California in 11-15 July, 2006.
